We review AI tools in 5 steps: selecting the tool, testing it on real tasks, scoring it against 5 criteria, checking its privacy terms, and publishing with a date. This page explains each step so that you can judge how much weight to give our reviews, comparisons, and directories.

Which AI Tools Do We Review?
We review AI tools that visitors can use for a defined task, such as writing, image generation, coding, research, and automation. We choose tools in 3 ways:
- We select tools that are new, widely used, or often searched for.
- We select tools that visitors ask us to cover through our Contact page.
- We select tools that fit a category in our directories.
A company cannot buy a review. A submission or a request does not guarantee that we review the tool.
How Do We Test an AI Tool?
We test each tool in 4 steps:
- Create an account on the free plan, or on the lowest paid plan if no free plan exists.
- Run the same set of real tasks that the tool is built for, such as drafting an article, generating an image, or summarizing a document.
- Repeat the tasks to check whether the output stays consistent.
- Record the features, usage limits, speed, and errors that we observe.
When we compare 2 or more tools, we give every tool the same tasks and the same instructions. This keeps the comparison fair.
Which Criteria Do We Use to Score AI Tools?
We score every tool against 5 criteria. Each criterion has its own weight in the overall rating:
| Criterion | Weight | What we check |
|---|---|---|
| Output quality | 30% | Accuracy, usefulness, and consistency of results for the tool’s main task |
| Features | 25% | What the tool can do, what it cannot do, and which integrations it offers |
| Pricing | 20% | Cost of each plan, free plan limits, and value for the price |
| Ease of use | 15% | Time that a new user needs to complete a first task, and the clarity of the interface |
| Data privacy | 10% | What the tool’s terms and privacy policy say about storing and using your data |
We score each criterion on a scale from 1 to 5 and combine the scores using the weights above.
How Do We Evaluate Data Privacy?
We read the tool’s privacy policy and terms of service, and we note what they say about 4 points:
- Whether the tool uses your input to train its models.
- How long the tool keeps your data.
- Whether you can delete your data or opt out of training.
- Whether the tool shares your data with third parties.
A privacy policy shows what a company states, not what it does. We report the stated terms and recommend that you read them before you enter confidential data into any tool.
How Do We Compare AI Tools Side by Side?
We compare tools on the same 5 criteria, in the same order, using the same tasks. Each comparison page includes a table of features and prices and states which tool fits which type of user.
We name the best use case for each tool instead of declaring 1 winner for every situation. A tool that is best for writers can rank lower for developers.
How Do We Build Our Directories of AI Tools?
A directory lists tools that we judged relevant to a category, grouped by task. Directory listings give a short description, the main use case, and the pricing model.
We do not test every listed tool in depth. Tools that we review in full link to their review page, and we mark which listings have a full review.
How Do Ads and Affiliate Links Affect Our Reviews?
They do not affect our ratings, rankings, or conclusions. TechVash earns revenue from Google AdSense ads and affiliate links. We may earn a commission when you buy through an affiliate link, at no extra cost to you.
We apply the same criteria to tools with affiliate links and tools without them. If a company gives us free access to a tool for evaluation, we state this on the review. Read our Disclaimer for the full disclosure.
How Often Do We Update Reviews?
We show the date on every review and re-check each review at least every 6 months. We also update a review when a tool announces a major change to its features, limits, or pricing.
When we update a review, we change the date and correct the affected sections.
How Do We Handle Mistakes and Feedback?
We correct verified factual errors as soon as we confirm them. If you find a wrong price, an outdated feature, or a broken link, send the page URL and a source for the correct information through our Contact page.
Tool makers can also ask us to correct a factual error. We change opinions and ratings only when new testing supports a change.
What Are the Limits of Our Reviews?
Our reviews describe our testing at a specific time, and your results can differ. AI tools change often, and output depends on your input, your plan, and the version of the tool. We do not test every feature of every tool, and AI tools can produce incorrect or biased output.
Use our reviews as a starting point and test a tool on your own task before you commit to a paid plan. Our About page explains who we are and why TechVash exists.
